Grundschule in Dättnau
2002
The painter Reto Boller was commissioned to create a site-specific
work for the new building of a primary school in Dättnau/Winterthur
(CHE). On a canopy in the courtyard of the building, visible
from the stairway, Boller originally planned a landscape made
of artificial materials in order to create a contrast with the
school’s natural surroundings. But after experimenting
with forms and materials, he decided in favour of strewn broken
blue glass. The shards of cobalt glass are created from special
glass during the production process. The shade of blue varies
with each batch and is not easy to reproduce exactly. The Kunstgiesserei
found a company in Grünenplan (D) that produces glass of
the colour required. The Kunstgiesserei took over the planning
and realization of the project on the school grounds. |
