Kantonsschule Kreuzlingen 2000
The artists Markus Wetzel and Markus Weiss participated as the duo M&M in the art in the built environment competition for the canton school of Kreuzlingen (CHE). Their concept included a variable element, changing digitally produced ‘wallpaper’ through which the appearance of the building is altered, and a contrasting static element, sculptural representations of the two artists in dialogue. After consultation with the Kunstgiesserei, the artists decided for moulds created from a full body 3-D scan. The moulds were produced in Rapid Prototyping in Los Angeles (USA). The lightweight polyurethane was coated with a synthetic material and given a chrome lacquer. The figures produced proved to be too susceptible to damage and were replaced with a version made of a more resistant synthetic the following year. The Kunstgiesserei produced the figures in polyurethane resin, and later also made a further version in polished aluminium.
