The Kunstgiesserei
sees itself as a facility for the realization of sculptural
projects. The field of 3-dimensional projects involves nearly
all materials and techniques, and often requires unconventional
solutions in order for a work to be realised.
The work of the foundry consists to greatest extent of classical
art casting. Based on a model or sketch, an individual piece,
or sometimes a limited series, is then made using an appropriate
casting method. In this process, the requirements of the artists
and the particular aspects of each work make individual treatment
necessary.
The consultation process begins already in the preparatory phases.
For extensive projects such as art in the built environment,
as well as special commissions
such as set design and architectural components for exhibitions,
the Kunstgiesserei supports the process from beginning to end.
This includes the planning phase, technical advising, the crafting
of the piece and the coordination of the steps involved, when
necessary in cooperation with external companies.
The restoration and preservation of sculptures is a further
field in which the Kunstgiesserei is active. As sculptures age
restoration may become
necessary for various reasons such as damage caused by weather
conditions, or as a result of accidents during transportation,
or when harmed by earlier repair work.
The Kesselhaus
Josephsohn was opened next to the foundry in 2002. In this
space, the work of the sculptor Hans Josephsohn can simultaneously
be protected and presented under optimal conditions. |
